Deeper Sounds of Freedom

Rifles and Wrath

Steadily, steadily through the years
the bells of freedom strike and toll
the joyful tidings: “Rest easy here!
Be at peace in your own home.”
And with each peal clearly resounds
the echoes of battles fought
on home and foreign battle grounds.
The bells’ steady tones were bought
with grit and blood and anguished cries.
Be thankful, friend! Always rejoice!
You freedom was bought when bullets’ flight
was stopped by those who stood by choice.

But do not miss the deeper strains
of overarching melodies.
This present country will crumble one day
and give way to the heavenly.
Our national freedom is itself but an echo
of the greatest freedom ever bought.
Listen! Hear the clearest, deepest notes!
Victory was won a’top a hill on a cross
with grit and blood and anguished cries.
Be thankful, friend! Always rejoice!
Salvation was purchased by the Lord of life
who felt God’s wrath and died by choice.

Neither country nor soul were freed without blood.
Remember the cost associated with peace.
Remember the soldiers who died for your good!
But DO NOT forget that it took the death of The King
to bring salvation; to make you truly free.
