10-23-11 Sunday Service Condensed

Before The Throne of God Above

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong, a perfect plea:
A great High Priest, whose name is Love,
Who ever lives and pleads for me.

My name is graven on his hands,
My name is written on his heart;
I know that while in heaven he stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart
No tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair,
And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look, and see him there
Who made an end of all my sin.

Because a sinless Savior died,
My sinful soul is counted free;
For God, the Just, is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me
To look on Him and pardon me

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Praise the One,
Risen Son of God!

Behold him there, the risen Lamb
My perfect, spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable I am,
The King of glory and of grace!

One in himself, I cannot die
My soul is purchased by his blood
My life is hid with Christ on high,
With Christ, my Savior and my God
With Christ, my Savior and my God

31He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. 32He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.

33But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”

34Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? 37Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? 38If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.” Mark 8:31-38

Brothers and sisters, what God calls you to do is to trust that He is good!

Hebrews 11:6 – “Without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists, and that He rewards those who seek Him.”

Faith is valuing Jesus higher and wanting him more than everything else.

Faith is burning your old plow, slaughtering the oxen, kissing your family goodbye (like Elisha in 1 Kings 19), and reaching down to get the cross as you walk behind the Savior.

Have you denied your old self? Does your life look like Jesus, or the world? Have you submitted your old ways to be crucified with Jesus, or are you still clinging to the plow? Are you ashamed of Jesus?

Brothers and sisters, I beg you: for the sake of your joy, for the sake of your good, for the sake of your eternal soul – DENY YOURSELF, AND TAKE UP YOUR CROSS.

Follow. Jesus. and trust that He is good enough to make it absolutely worthwhile.
